Microsoft announced it will release an H.264 plug-in for Google Chrome in addition to supporting video as part of Google's WebM initiative, this as part of Internet Explorer 9.  As you know, WebM has plans to be supported also within Safari as well as IE9.

Microsoft is releasing a plug-in for Chrome
(Windows version for now) that provides support for H.264. In addition, it's committed to supporting third-party WebM video plug-ins.  Its clear that Microsoft's taking the opportunity to push its browser as a more agnostic approach as opposed just to its own format.
