Wowza Continues Mission to Redefine Flash® Streaming
Latest Version of Wowza Media Server™ Pro Enables Large-Scale Live Flash
Streaming at One-Tenth the Cost of FMS; Boasts Advanced Service Provider
Features
SAN JOSE, CA, September 10, 2007—Wowza Media Systems, an emerging leader
in streaming media server software, today announced the launch of Wowza
Media Server Pro 1.3, the latest version of their next-generation
streaming server software that takes live Flash streaming scalability to
new heights and fundamentally redefines the economics of large-scale Flash
streaming.
With Wowza Media Server Pro 1.3, enterprises and service providers can now
deploy large-scale live streaming capability at one-tenth the cost of the
Adobe® Flash Media Server (FMS2) origin-edge edition, the only solution
that was previously available to them. The Wowza Pro advantage is the
result of advanced service-oriented features incorporated as standard
elements in all Wowza Pro editions to greatly simplify scalability,
management and content protection.
Among Wowza Media Server Pro 1.3’s new features:
• Live Stream Repeater, a standard function in all Wowza Pro editions that
allows live streams to be replicated across multiple servers, and further
enhances the already unmatched live streaming performance of Wowza Media
Server Pro.
• Centralized Configuration Management capability that lets users
configure multiple Wowza Media Server Pro instances from a single
configuration management server.
• SecureToken content protection against stream-ripping threats like
Replay Media Catcher assures content owners of the security of their
assets.
• Customizable Media Readers allow flexible server extensibility, which,
for example, enable SHOUTcast restreaming and open the path for future
streaming of H.264 encoded content to the soon-to-be-released version of
Adobe’s Flash player.
“As we’re expanding our deployment of Wowza Pro servers, having the
ability to manage configurations centrally, monitor and provide the
customer-facing view of the server performance, and secure the content, is
critical to meeting the service levels our customers expect,” said Eduardo
Martinez, Technical Service Manager, StreamGuys. “The functionality Wowza
provides and their responsiveness to our needs as a service provider is
right on target.”
In a recent Contentinople article about Wowza’s partnership with global
CDN Interoute, Mark Lewis, Director of Voice and Commercial Software at
Interoute, was equally enthusiastic: "Interoute has shifted all its Flash
streaming business to the Wowza platform -- no other vendors will be
offered. The reason is simple -- Flash has enormous market penetration but
the false economics of current Flash streaming pricing hinder its wider
adoption."
Wowza Media Server Pro has achieved great market traction with its robust
functionality and superior economics. Since its launch in February 2007,
the product has racked up over 2000 global licenses from well-known
players like Macy’s, Thomson Learning and Julius Blum GmBH, as well as
numerous service providers, including the UK’s Astream and the Dutch
provider NetMasters, along with global CDNs Interoute and StreamGuys.
“Flash streaming and live streaming in particular are clearly on the rapid
rise and we see many opportunities for enterprises and service providers
to reap the benefits of the Wowza solution,” commented David Stubenvoll,
Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Wowza Media Systems. “We continue
to redefine Flash streaming by providing superior functionality and
enabling the market to deliver Flash at Windows Media prices.”
