Packet Vision And Tandberg Television Lay The Foundations For Frame-Accurate Addressable Advertising Over IPTV

packetvision_logo2.gif

London - 18 June 2008: Packet Vision, the pioneer of advanced video advertising and TANDBERG Television, part of the Ericsson Group (NASDAQ:ERIC), today announced that they have partnered to deliver an advanced targeted advertising solution. The companies have built what they believe to be the world's only solution capable of delivering truly frame-accurate splicing in H.264 over IPTV, which is a key component in ensuring seamless delivery of addressable advertising.

The solution was used to provide addressable advertising to university students subscribed to Inuk's Freewire Service - an IPTV network that provides triple play services to universities across the UK. Ads played out during Channel 4 commercial breaks that weren't relevant to students were replaced with ads for a major UK convenience food brand during May. It was the second such campaign to be completed successfully.

Both campaigns were achieved using Packet Vision's addressable advertising service, and employed Packet Vision's PV1000 and TANDBERG's EN8030 encoder. The PV1000 is Packet Vision's fully integrated appliance with ad server, splicer and router. Powered by the VIDEO SWITCHING ENGINE, the PV1000 is architected to provide optimum addressability and unparalleled video quality to the network edge. The TANDBERG EN8030 encoder is based on the company's award-winning MPEG-4 AVC compression platform and provides a feature-rich solution with industry--leading performance to delver the best quality pictures at the lowest bitrates. A frame accurate splice was defined as a splice occurring with an error margin of no more than 2 frames. Packet Vision and TANDBERG Television believe that the next-best available solution would have an error margin of at least 6 frames or ¼ second, which is clearly visible to the human eye.

Accurate splicing is an essential element of ad insertion or replacement, and therefore a basic but critical component of addressable advertising. Without such accuracy ad spots can either cut into the spots that follow them, or run short - leaving holes in the commercial break when an ad is inserted, or showing the original ad when that ad is replaced.

Packet Vision provided TANDBERG Television with a sophisticated analysis of Channel 4's programming feed and with the tools required to fine-tune the legacy TANDBERG E5720 MPEG-2 encoder and the new EN8030 MPEG-4 AVC encoder - making them the only encoders currently available that can enable such frame-accurate splicing. The solution developed through collaboration between Packet Vision and TANDBERG Television adheres to SCTE35 and SCTE104 standards.

Amino Introduces First 100% Digital, High Definition (HD) IPTV Set-Top Box (STB) at NXTcomm08

amino_banner.gif

Cambridge, UK and Las Vegas, NV - June 17, 2008: Amino, the world leading IPTV platform supplier, today launched the AmiNET130M, the market's first 100% digital HD IPTV STB, at the NXTcomm conference in Las Vegas.

With HDMI as the only available method of connection to the TV, the AmiNET130M is cheaper and simpler to install than other HD IPTV STBs. As a result, for any service provider whose primary proposition is HD the AmiNET130M lowers the cost of connecting a customer.

The AmiNET130M acknowledges that TV purchasing trends have shifted significantly towards HD-ready flatscreens, and the product complements the AmiNET130 which supports a full range of traditional TV connectors. The AmiNET130M retains all of the other benefits of it's sister product, including offering service providers the ability to deliver end-to-end digital HD TV as a multicast or on-demand multi-room video experience. Like the AmiNET130, the AmiNET130M supports MPEG-4, allowing channels and services to reach customers over longer distances or when they have lower bandwidth broadband connections.

In addition, the AmiNET130M is the industry's smallest all digital, HD MPEG-4 STB, measuring just 4.48 inches wide x 1.37 inches high. Based on the established, award winning Amino design, the AmiNET130M has a sleek and distinctive black extruded case.

"This is another great example of Amino shaping IPTV with an innovative solution that recognises the dynamics of this fast evolving industry," said Andrew Burke, CEO of Amino Communications.

Top features of the AmiNET130M include the following:

High Definition - The support of HD video offers greater realism and more detailed viewing in large display formats. In addition to HD video, the AmiNET130M also supports HD graphics, offering service operators the ability to display more volume and diversity of content on User Interface screens. The AmiNET130M adds value to the consumer and creates new revenue streams for providers through personalized services such as weather forecasts, stock quotes, or targeted advertising.

MPEG-4 - Decoding technology that allows significantly higher quality video streams at the same bitrate previous standards were capable of or the same quality but using lower bandwidths.

Low Cost Deployment - The AmiNET130M is a cost-effective solution that allows service operators to reduce their costs and therefore expand existing markets and address entirely new markets.

Flexible Platform - The AmiNET130M offers service providers even greater flexibility in how they choose to install services for customers.

As Industry Convergence And Triple Play Take Root, The DSL Forum Work

CommunicAsia 08, Singapore 17 June 2008 - Changing network environments
and new sophisticated applications such as IPTV have brought the DSL
Forum to transform its work across the broadband space and leads today
to the unveiling of its new name and identify - The Broadband Forum.

To meet the need for greater speed, more responsive network provisioning
and greater personalized Quality of Experience (QoE) for customers, the
DSL Forum has expanded its scope of work over the years- producing more
than 150 technical reports to help drive industry progress. Moving from
pure DSL solutions to include access agnostic management specifications
in 2005, the Forum now adds PON solutions, more digital home
optimization models and sets the standard for real time application
support.

"Broadband has already changed lives considerably since our organization
first began in 1994 - but now the world stands on the brink of a giant
leap forward in converged communications," said George Dobrowski,
Chairman and President of The Broadband Forum.

"For some time now, we have been dealing with much more than DSL,"
continues Dobrowski. "Yet we discovered that because of the DSL in our
name, many of our specifications that are access agnostic, management
related or provide solutions to broader broadband issues, were being
missed by the standards community because they mistakenly thought our
work was just DSL specific.

"With the upcoming release of BroadbandSuite Release 3.0, we provide our
commitment to simplifying the management and architecture of the hybrid
DSL and fiber networks that are emerging, and our continuous focus on
expanding the TR-069 BroadbandHome family of work, which continues to be
updated to stay aligned with the ever changing digital home landscape.
With close to 30 million devices on the market that are TR-069 adherent
today, it is clear that this body of work continues to grow in
importance to the industry.

"This name change does reflect a change in the industry, as providers
roll out many broadband technologies such as DSL, fiber and wireless to
meet the needs of their customers. However, as DSL is a vital tool in
expanding broadband access to more areas and increasing service speed
via its flavors, such as ADSL2plus, VDSL2 and bonded DSL, our critical
work in the DSL arena will absolutely continue," concluded Dobrowski.

Indie Film "Take Out" opens this Friday in New York City

take-out-home-jpg.jpg

Sean Baker (Co-Creator of Greg the Bunny fame) has an opening this Friday for his feature Take Out, the story is a day-in-the-life of Ming Ding (Charles Jang), an illegal Chinese immigrant working as a deliveryman for a Chinese take-out shop in New York City.

Ming is behind with payments on his huge debt to the smugglers who brought him to the United States. The collectors have given him until the end of the day to deliver the money that is due. After borrowing most of the money from friends and relatives, Ming realizes that the remainder must come from the day's delivery tips. In order to do so, he must make more than double his average daily income.

In a social-realist style, the camera follows Ming on his deliveries throughout the upper Manhattan neighborhood where social and economic extremes exist side by side. Intercutting between Ming's deliveries and the daily routine of the restaurant, Take Out presents a harshly real look at the daily lives of illegal Chinese immigrants in New York City.

Greg the Bunny was a hit on-line, via IFC and iTunes and Sean expects that Take Out will also use the long tail for distribution after the features release.

I interviewed Sean last year and he discussed the project Sean Baker

The film is opening this Friday 6/6/8 at the Quad Cinemas on 13th st. (btwn 5th & 6th). Shih-Ching, Sean and Charles Jangwill be part of a Q & A after the 6:35 and 8:30 shows.

Dreampark Commits to SVG Standard for Optimized Speed and Performance

dreampark_co_logo.jpg

NORRKÖPING, Sweden - June 3, 2008 - Dreampark, a leading provider of IPTV middleware, announced today that it is fully committed to the new SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) standard for its ability to optimize the speed and performance of IPTV services.

Initial tests by Dreampark have shown that SVG, which is slowly being adopted by IPTV set-top box vendors, brings dramatic improvements to the perceived response times and speed on the client. It also brings a solution to the challenge of visualizing graphics in HD resolution without compromising speed.

Dreampark will adapt to SVG in a manner so that the Dreampark independence towards vendors of set-top boxes is protected. Dreampark's Dreamgallery™ middleware will keep its capability to work simultaneously on a number of different set-top boxes in a network.

Dreamgallery has become the most deployed IPTV middleware in Europe because of its tremendous flexibility and broad support for other components in the IPTV ecosystem. An operator running the Dreamgallery software may not only freely chose among a wide range of DRM systems, VOD servers and set-top boxes (which may also co-exist within one single network), they may also add new advanced features to the system with short time-to-market and without having to involve Dreampark in the process. Many operators witness that changes made within a few minutes using the Dreamgallery administration interfaces could require a six-month upgrade project by some middleware vendors using proprietary native technology.

About Dreampark
Dreampark's IPTV middleware product, Dreamgallery™, is the most deployed IPTV middleware in Europe. Dreamgallery is a robust and revenue-generating solution delivered to some of the world's first commercial IPTV deployments. Clients include Canal Digital, Teracom, Dansk Bredbaand, FastTV, iVisjon/NextGenTel, Smile Content and Viasat. Dreamgallery maximizes operator flexibility by taking advantage of the powers of the browser standards. Dreamgallery is the natural choice for operators wishing to move faster than the competition in order to create unique differentiators and who want to base their solutions on standards rather than being locked in to a proprietary platform. The offline administrations module gives operators full control of their TV portals and provides the necessary tools to set up interactive services without the need of consultants. Graphical flexibility is virtually unlimited thanks to the concept of generating pictures out of templates on the server side Dreampark's strong commitment to provide the best performing browser-based client on the market is based on end user research and has resulted in a unique combination of outstanding user friendliness, openness, flexibility and TV application feel. For more information, please visit www.dreampark.com.
