Telekom Slovenia's Subsidiary Planet 9 Further Develops its IPTV Offering with Edgeware Distributed Video Delivery Servers

Stockholm - September 20 2010 - Edgeware AB, the technology leader in distributed delivery systems, today announced it has been selected by Telekom Slovenia's Planet 9 multimedia and services integration subsidiary to provide its specialized video servers as a key component of their IPTV delivery system.

Telekom Slovenia is Slovenia's leading IPTV provider with more than 120,000 subscribers, while Planet 9 provides multimedia, content and systems integration expertise to deliver highly innovative platforms such as SIOL iO.  This is a unique service representing the first convergence video service linking television, Internet and mobile to enable the viewing of broadcast content, as well as video on demand and user generated video content. Planet 9 also owns, manages and provides high quality entertainment and informative multimedia content and services for web portal siol.net.  Siol.net has 500,000 visitors monthly and is one of the most visited websites in Slovenia.

"Our main goal when choosing a delivery platform was scalability," said Tomaž Pernovšek, M.Sc., deputy manager at Planet 9.  "We were interested specifically in the robustness and the hardware infrastructure.  We also found that the Edgeware solution integrated smoothly with both of our VOD delivery models of progressive download and streaming as well as offering us support for future service capabilities such as catch-up TV and network PVR.  As a final point, the Edgeware servers offer very cost effective performance."

"We are looking forward to working with Planet 9 to further scale and expand its leadership position in developing and deploying IPTV services.  We are very pleased that Planet 9 has seen us as the right partner to manage their future demand and service expansion," said Tom Schmitt, executive vice president sales at Edgeware.
